Frequently Asked Questions

Which image format should I use?
Photos: WebP (best quality/size ratio, supported in all current browsers since 2020) or JPG (universal). Logos / graphics with transparency: WebP or PNG. Modern apps with control over browser support: AVIF (smallest files, but slower to encode and limited Safari support).
Why is WebP smaller than JPG?
WebP uses better compression algorithms (predictive coding similar to VP8 video). At equivalent visual quality, WebP photos are typically 25-35% smaller than JPG. The trade-off is older browsers (pre-2020) can't display them — but those are < 1% of traffic now.
Will conversion lose quality?
Lossy formats (JPG, WebP-lossy, AVIF) lose some quality each time you re-encode. Lossless formats (PNG, WebP-lossless) preserve every pixel. We use 92% quality by default which is visually indistinguishable from the original for most use cases.
Can I convert PNG with transparency?
Yes — PNG, WebP, and AVIF all support transparency. JPG does NOT (transparent pixels become white or black). If you need transparency, use WebP for the best size/quality.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device — perfect for sensitive or unpublished photos.
