How grades convert to points here
Carnegie Mellon University applies the standard plus/minus scale — 3.7 for A-, 3.3 for B+, 2.7 for B-. Small differences per course, but across 32 or 40 courses they are what separates a 3.5 from a 3.9.
Pass/No Pass (P/NP) courses are excluded entirely from the Quality Point Average and from honors determinations.
Worth knowing about Carnegie Mellon University
CMU calls its GPA the 'QPA' (Quality Point Average); University Honors is awarded to students with a 3.5+ cumulative QPA after seven semesters, a distinct track from a traditional Latin-honors cutoff system.
