University of Florida applies the standard plus/minus scale — 3.7 for A-, 3.3 for B+, 2.7 for B-. Small differences per course, but across 32 or 40 courses they are what separates a 3.5 from a 3.9.

S/U graded electives: S (equivalent to C or better) and U carry no grade points and are excluded from the UF GPA entirely.

Latin honors at University of Florida

Latin honors at University of Florida are determined by department rather than centrally, so the requirement depends on your major. Some departments set a GPA threshold, others require a thesis, comprehensive examination, or faculty recommendation — GPA alone may not be sufficient or even the primary criterion.

Check with your department directly rather than relying on a university-wide number. The variation between departments at schools using this model is wide enough that a GPA earning honors in one major may not in another.

Standing, honors lists, and retakes

Good academic standing at University of Florida requires a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Falling below it typically triggers academic warning, then probation, with dismissal only after sustained shortfall — the escalation gives time to recover.

On repeated courses: UF has no grade forgiveness: a repeated course's grade is counted in the GPA every time it is taken (credit awarded only once); students may not repeat a course after earning C or higher.

Worth knowing about University of Florida

UF is unusual among peers in having no grade-forgiveness policy at all — every attempt at a repeated course stays in the GPA calculation, unlike most other Florida public universities (FIU, USF, UNF) which do offer forgiveness.
