How grades convert to points here
Louisiana State University applies the standard plus/minus scale — 3.7 for A-, 3.3 for B+, 2.7 for B-. Small differences per course, but across 32 or 40 courses they are what separates a 3.5 from a 3.9.
Latin honors at Louisiana State University
Louisiana State University awards Latin honors against fixed GPA cutoffs: 3.5 for cum laude, 3.7 for magna cum laude, and 3.85 for summa cum laude.
Fixed cutoffs are the friendlier system to plan against. You know the target from your first semester, and clearing it does not depend on how strong your classmates turn out to be — unlike a percentile system, where the threshold moves every year.
Standing, honors lists, and retakes
Good academic standing at Louisiana State University requires a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Falling below it typically triggers academic warning, then probation, with dismissal only after sustained shortfall — the escalation gives time to recover.
On repeated courses: Undergraduates may repeat a course for grade improvement when the original grade was C or below; the higher grade replaces the original in the GPA, but a student may use this replacement for a maximum of 18 credit hours total across their career.
Worth knowing about Louisiana State University
LSU only introduced plus/minus grading starting Fall 2015 (letter grades A-D take +/-, F does not), and caps grade-replacement repeats at a lifetime total of 18 credit hours.
