Latin honors at Middlebury College
Middlebury College awards Latin honors by class rank rather than a fixed GPA. Effective July 2025: Summa Cum Laude to the top 2% of the graduating class, Magna Cum Laude to the top 15%, Cum Laude to the top 30% — replacing the prior fixed-GPA system (formerly >3.90 / >3.75 / >3.50).
A percentile system means the threshold is only known after the class graduates. Published historical cutoffs are the best available guide, but treat them as approximate — grade inflation pushes them up over time, and a strong cohort pushes them up faster.

Worth knowing about Middlebury College
Middlebury switched from fixed-GPA Latin-honors cutoffs to a percentile-based system in 2025 explicitly to counteract grade inflation, and students found responsible for academic dishonesty are permanently barred from graduation honors.
