Latin honors at University of Wisconsin–Madison
University of Wisconsin–Madison awards Latin honors by class rank rather than a fixed GPA. Graduation with Distinction (top 20% of the graduating class, per term) — 60 UW-Madison residence credits required. Most undergraduates are not eligible for traditional cum laude/magna/summa Latin honors at all.
A percentile system means the threshold is only known after the class graduates. Published historical cutoffs are the best available guide, but treat them as approximate — grade inflation pushes them up over time, and a strong cohort pushes them up faster.
Standing, honors lists, and retakes
Good academic standing at University of Wisconsin–Madison requires a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Falling below it typically triggers academic warning, then probation, with dismissal only after sustained shortfall — the escalation gives time to recover.

Worth knowing about University of Wisconsin–Madison
UW-Madison (outside the Law School) does not use the cum laude / magna cum laude / summa cum laude naming convention for most undergraduates — it uses class-percentile 'Graduation with Distinction' instead, and each school/college sets its own separate Dean's List GPA threshold (e.g. L&S: 3.600 for first/second-years vs 3.850 for juniors/seniors).
